Executive Director - Pennsylvania Tourism Office
Michael Chapaloney is Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Tourism Office at the state Department of Community and Economic Development. Previously, Chapaloney was Director of Marketing & Sales at Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, Harrisburg, after serving as Communications Director in the state tourism office.
During his leadership as Communications Director, the Tourism Office was awarded a HSMAI Platinum Adrian Award for Feature Placement – Print. Since returning to the Office as Executive Director, one notable achievement was securing a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for their winter television commercial.
The tourism industry in Pennsylvania welcomes 205 million visitors, generating $43.3 billion in economic impact, and supports 510,000 jobs.
Michael’s past experience includes the state Department of Community and Economic Development where he served as a Deputy Press Secretary for Technology Investment, the state House of Representatives where he conducted media relations and speechwriting for members of the legislature, and the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, now the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association where he served as Publications Director for the statewide industry association.
He is a graduate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania and currently serves on the Alumni Association Board of Directors. In addition to this service, he is on the board of directors of Open Stage of Harrisburg, a professional theatre company in the capital city.
